I really have to apologize for taking so long to write back to you. Things have been pretty hectic around here. First off, the dog (we call him Tag) is great. He’s smart, wants to please, and is already working hard on his retrieves. Just got some pictures back from being developed and will send them along to you. He comes down to school with us most days and we are hoping that he will be able to be out with the nursery school kids in the future. We just finished up all his shots last weekend. He weighs about 17.5 lbs. now. Please tell Luke that he is a keen dog.
I want to thank you again for your hospitality when we came to Wisconsin. When we tell people how far we traveled to get Tag, they think we’re a little crazy but we couldn’t have asked for a better dog (or breeder). Laura and I had a great time. I keep thinking about how I can get some time and come back with Tag to do some hunting.
Since we got back, life has been very busy. I took the nursery school families camping for a week (two groups of about 80 people), my one son moved to Hawaii, my other son is working as a national park ranger in Maine, and my wife and I bought a house. Escrow closes on July 22, but the current owners are renting back for a month, so we probably won’t be moving in until late August, early September. The house was originally built in 1916 and totally renovated in 1986. It’s located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains and has a small stream that runs in a culvert along the backyard. Have already talked to the local water district about re-circulating the water and adding some fish! We’ve heard from the neighbors that there is a local bear that comes around on garbage days as well as mountain lions and coyotes. Definitely more rural than where we have been living.
Summer camp started at my school last week, so in addition to the nursery schoolers, I have 45 alumni back for day camp. We’re headed up the coast for camping with them this week. I’m taking Tag with me – we’ll see how he does.
Again, thanks for everything and I will try to do a better job of staying in touch.
