Si, had another great year of pheasant hunting. I think like 67 birds. Couple questions for you. We took him with us to visit our son in ND. Took his regular bowls and food and would not eat. The guys went out Christmas day and didn’t kick anything up. So, they went to a preserve on Sunday. He probably kicked up 100 birds. The guys shot 19 of the 20 they paid for. It was about 0 degrees and they hunted 5 hrs. Si was slow and lethargic; not his crazy self. Took about 4 days for him to bounce back. I went and bought dog boots, he wants nothing to do with them. Ideas to get him to eat on trips and ideas to keep his paws warm in ND.
Our son lives in Fargo, saw natural birds, but our son didn’t get permission to hunt any where. His friend has land about 3 hrs away, but didn’t want to drive that far.
I take good quality canned dog food for our dogs to eat when hunting. I mix 1/2 can over some dry food morning and night. I also put one tablet of baby asprine in the can food. During the hunt when we take a break they get a hot dog or other treat to keep up their energy. I have not found any boots that will stay on the dogs. I do trim the long hair that extends beyond their paws to help eliminate sand burs, etc from sticking to their paws. Harden up their paws ahead of time by running them on black top, concrete, gravel and out in the field. We do stop and rest / warm up the dogs if they need it. They have a big heart and want to please you. So it is your responsibility to look after them when hunting hard. I do not hunt when the temp is below zero.
Hope this helps, Bill

Si is incredible. He has an amazing noise. Jeff started easy, shot a starting pistol around him and no problem. Took him to a game farm before season. He’s been going strong all season. He got his 65th bird today. He usually hunts with just Jeff. All sticking to proper limits. Son goes with him some on weekends. They let lots of bird go by us. He is a very hard hunter. He’s not as much as a lover as Earl was, but is still very loveable. He does still like to chew.
Here’s just one picture. Call Jeff any time. 608-333-1358, willing to get references.
