Hope you had a great hunting season. We started out with a second place finish in a Grouse/Woodcock Tournament up here (limited out on woodcock in an hour). It appears Gauge has no problem retrieving woodcock, grouse, pheasants, chukars or anything else that flies (next year I’m going to take him on an early goose hunt I bet he drags a greater Canada all the way back to me). We killed 86 Ducks in 5 days in North Dakota this year…unbelievable hunting out there. We have been working him on birds quite a bit and he has a great nose. He is filling out in the chest and is a big boy. Cheryl and I couldn’t make the PF banquet because our daughter had a tournament that weekend but we would like to make the next one (do you have a spring banquet?). Anyway I am writing to get your mailing address. I won a door prize at the Wisconsin State Sporting Clay Championship that I am not going to be able to use but I am sure you could. It is a Gift Certificate fort a 10 Bird Pheasant Hunt at Woods & Meadow Hunting Preserve in Warrens, WI (looks like its about 35 minutes from your home). It must be used by March 31, 2012. It’s just too far for us to travel between now and then. Anyway you are more than welcome to it if you like. Send me your address and I’ll get it mailed out right away. We look forward to seeing you in the future and sharing some stories.
Gauge is doing great. He has 12 birds under his belt (2 Quail and 10 Chukars) and is coming along very well. His momma spoils the heck out of him and he loves every minute of it. His last time into the vet he weighed 23 pounds and is about 15 inches at the top of the back. He goes bonkers over birds and has a very good nose. We are working on retrieving (still at the playing stage). He is very bold. We have slowly worked in the gun starting with a starter pistol and making loud noises while he was eating etc. He is definitely not gun shy. Thus far all of the birds we have killed over him have been with a .410 and he couldn’t care less about the noise. We will slowly work up to the bigger guns and larger birds He is getting birds about every two weeks and likes swimming in the pond at Black Duck Hunting Preserve where we train. As you can hopefully tell from the pictures he is a very handsome little boy. He has been very well socialized with people and other dogs. He still thinks he can whoop his big sister and tries regularly. Fortunately she has been very good with him as she is still a puppy herself. We couldn’t be happier with him. I have given out several of your business cards you may have some more yoopers contacting you in the future. Everyone who meets Gauge loves him.
